5 Things I Always Keep in My Kitchen
Welcome back to The Nest! After a busy spring filled with graduations, baby showers, and birthdays … The Nest is back! Today I’m sharing a few of the products that I make sure to always keep in my kitchen. Over the years I’ve learned that having dependable tools on hand can make an incredible difference, not only in the baking process itself, but also in creating cookies that look polished and professional.
These are the five items I reach for almost every single day!
1. Cookie Turntable
One tool I absolutely can’t decorate without is my cookie turntable. It helps me smoothly rotate cookies while decorating, without having to directly touch them, which makes adding details, lettering, and line work so much easier. It also helps me work more comfortably during long decorating sessions.
2. Cookie Scribes
Cookie scribes may be small, but they are one of the hardest-working tools in my kitchen! I use scribes constantly for popping air bubbles, spreading icing into tiny corners, and cleaning up details while decorating cookies.
3. Piping Bags
As a cookie decorator, piping bags are something I always keep stocked and ready to go. Between outlining, flooding, and detail work, I use multiple icing colors during every decorating session, so having reliable piping bags is a must.
4. Heat Sealer
Packaging is such an important part of running a cookie business, so my heat sealer is always nearby. It helps keep cookies fresh while giving every order a clean and professional finish. Remember: Little Owls Bakery cookies are still delicious two weeks after pick-up!
5. Silicone Rectangular Baking Mat
Last, but definitely not least, is my silicone rectangular baking mat. This mat sits at the bottom of each of my baking trays, helping my cookies bake more evenly and making cleanup so much easier after long days in the kitchen.
These tools may seem simple, but they’ve truly become staples in my baking routine and I don’t know what I would do without them! You can find all of the items I’ve listed above on my Amazon Storefront. Click the link below to check it out!
Until next time, keep baking!

Cookie Tip #6
I make all of my royal icing at the beginning of each week, storing it in tubs like you can see to the left, and then I color the icing as I go. This ensures I’m not wasting any icing and that I always have enough to make all of the colors I need for each order!
